Return to Cabin
Cortez patches you up without difficulty, and then you make a beeline for your cabin. You’re exhausted. A ration bar, a stiff drink, and a long sleep are what you want.
You’d expected the job to have some unexpected surprises, but nothing like this. It’s enough to make you wonder if you really want to be here.
The door to your cabin opens as you approach. You pause, surprised. In an alcove above the desk, there’s something new. A flower. A Midnight Constellation, only this one is of normal size. And unlike all the other variations of the flower you’ve seen, this one emits a faint golden glow from its throat.
A sense of calm washes over as you walk to the flower. You extend a hand, and the plant lifts its blossom to meet the tips of your fingers, and you would swear you hear a faint bell-like tone—like a distant voice singing—from the throat of the Midnight Constellation. . . . A thank you from the station mind.
A smile crosses your face. And for the first time since you stepped on Unity, you feel yourself start to relax. Maybe this job isn’t going to be quite so bad after all.
